Data Center Interconnection (DCI) is a network solution for interconnection between multiple data centers. The data center is an important infrastructure for digital transformation. With the rise of cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence, the application of enterprise data centers has become increasingly widespread. To meet the needs of scenarios such as cross-regional operations, user access, and remote disaster recovery, more and more organizations and enterprises deploy multiple data centers in different regions. In this case, multiple data centers need to be connected.

图标-Tendency(2).jpg

With the gradual maturity of cloud computing business model, all kinds of applications and traditional IT services are "on the cloud".Cloud business is becoming a new value center. Therefore, the transition from traditional data centers to cloud-based data centers has become a mainstream trend. Therefore, the transition from traditional data centers to cloud-based data centers has become a mainstream trend. Virtualization and resource pooling are the key features of cloud data centers. The core idea is to transform the smallest functional unit of the data center from a physical host to a virtual machine. These VMS have no relation to physical locations and can be flexibly scaled and migrated across servers and DCS. In this way, resources within and across DCS can be consolidated to form a unified resource pool, greatly improving resource utilization flexibility and efficiency. Therefore, data center interconnection is also an important step in data center virtualization and resource pooling.

图标-Demand(2).jpg

At present, it is common for organizations and enterprises to build data centers. But a single data center has been difficult to adapt to the business needs of the new era, therefore, the interconnection of multiple data centers is urgently required.

It is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Rapid growth of business scale

At present, emerging services such as cloud computing and intelligence are developing rapidly, and the number of related applications is also increasing rapidly, and these applications are strongly dependent on data centers. As a result, the scale of the business that data centers handle is growing rapidly, and the resources of a single data center will soon be insufficient. Restricted by factors such as the occupied area and energy supply of the data center, a single data center cannot expand indefinitely. When the business scale grows to a certain extent, multiple data centers need to be built in the same city or in different places. In this case, multiple data centers need to be connected to each other to support service.

Cross-regional user access is becoming more common

In recent years, the business of data centers has shifted from centering on Web services to centering on cloud services and data services, and the range of users of related organizations and enterprises has long been not restricted by region. Especially when the mobile Internet is very popular, users expect to be able to enjoy high-quality services anytime and anywhere. In order to meet the above demands and further improve the user experience, qualified enterprises usually build multiple data centers in different regions to facilitate cross-regional users' nearby access. This requires that business deployment can span data centers, and multiple data centers need to be interconnected.

Rigid demand for remote backup and disaster recovery

Nowadays, people's daily work is increasingly dependent on various application systems, and the continuity of these application systems depends on the stable operation of the data center system. At the same time, data security and service reliability and continuity are becoming more and more important, backup and disaster recovery have become rigid requirements. Realistic environment is full of uncertainties and all kinds of risks. Data centers are always facing various natural disasters, man-made attacks, accidents and other potential threats. By deploying multiple data centers in remote locations to improve business continuity, robustness and high reliability and availability of the data, has gradually become the common recognition of effective solutions. To deploy backup and disaster recovery solutions between different data centers, the interconnection of the data centers must first be completed.
